School Librarians Are Teachers

Marge holds a little poster that Brian Minor the ALS graphic artist whipped up quickly this morning. He took a photo of Marge against a blank wall & put the background in later and printed it. It was Marge's last ALS Board meeting as president.

Marge (a former NCLC Board Chair as well) shared an acronym with us (we librarians just love acronyms; Marge is a retired librarian): SABLE - Stash Acquistion Beyond Life Expectancy, which is managing to acquire more yarn than you can possibly use up in your lifetime.

I don't think of it as a problem so much as a goal.

Since 2004 in order to recognize the hard work, dedication, and expertise of library support staff and librarians The U. S. Congress has proclaimed the Tuesday of National Library Week be designated National Library Workers Day; and, that on that day, interested library workers, library groups, and libraries should advocate for better compensation for all library workers.

"Every Day is Full of Teachable Moments""

On the CBS Early Show this morning Kenneth C. Davis, author of the Don't Know Much About series, talked with Harry Smith about the importance of staying informed in 2009. How to do it? " Go to the public library. "Librarians should be in charge of things. They're helpful and it's free." Did he also say librarians should run the government? Or was that just my wishful thinking?

Pam has The Book of Answers!

NCLC's administrative assistant, Pam, checks out The Book of Answers by Carol Bolt, borrowed from Jennifer, to find the answer to any question.

The idea was such fun that I thought I'd blog about it and in the process found the Original Book of Answers website where you can find out the answers to your burning questions too.

The book or any of its successors would make a fun gift for any hard to buy for person or any librarian you know. (We all know librarians know where to find all the answers.)
